Learning A Bit About The Basics Of Yoga

Yoga is a very popular form of exercise for the body and the soul but some people are a bit reluctant to take the first step whether it is in a class or in the comfort of their own home. Yoga is nothing to be worried about and here are a few tips on how to enjoy yoga just to prove that point.

First you need to get hold of a yoga mat to practice on or failing that a nice size blanket will suffice. This is generally used because in yoga you will be putting pressure on parts of the body when exercising so it pays to be comfortable when doing this.

Like most work out routines you must make sure that you stretch properly before you attempt to do any yoga exercises. This is because when you do your yoga exercises for the first time you will undoubtedly get into some positions that your body has not experienced before. Stretching will enable the muscles to freely get into these positions and you should feel the benefits more.

You may think that yoga is easy and try to push yourself too far too quickly. It is better to know your limits and just work within those limits at first so that you enjoy your yoga rather than thinking it is a chore.

Try to pace yourself and start off with basic poses at first until you are used to them. Yoga should be relatively simple and you should feel relaxed doing the exercises. One you have mastered these basic poses then you can advance to the next level.

The first thing to learn is the Sukhasana which is a basic meditation pose. This pose comprises of sitting on the mat with your legs crossed and feet tucked underneath the legs whilst holding your knees very lightly.

When doing this pose your back should be straight and you should try to take deep breaths slowly and calmly. This should ensure that you are fully relaxed before the session starts.
