All-in-all this is a great mat and definitely worth the price if you are really into yoga. I think I need to break it in a little more. It’s too soon to tell whether or not I’ll shred this one too.

This mat is amazing! It’s definitely worth a try. However, after a week of regular use and washing after each use with mat wash, the stickiness is really beginning to come through. The thickness is incredibly helpful for holding poses — this mat doesn’t bunch or slip around on the floor — and the extra space (both a little wider and longer than my old mat) is especially nice in very full classes. It’s great for daily practice and to take to the gym. It’s heavy, but it’s worth the extra weight.

Both are in exceptional condition and he has used them multiple times every day. Another student in class also has one and really loves his. I do asthanga yoga, so the mat takes a beating because my yoga practice is a bit unsightly. This is a very good mat. Though the cost makes one pause before hitting the order button it simply blows you away once you start using it. Those who do ashtanga will enjoy the stability of the mat.

I feel much more secure as I change from one posture to the next because my feet do not slip. This mat is denser than mats I have used in the past so the feel is more firm, not soft.

I’ve had mine for two years of almost daily practice and it does the job, day in and day out. It’s comfortable, you don’t slip on it and it doesn’t show much sign of wear, despite the heavy duty use I give it. It’s a 1/4 inch thick. It’s soft to the touch, but it’s not spongy so you’re not as likely to lose your balance in tree pose. Arrived ahead of schedule, exactly what was ordered. It arrived in perfect condition, no flaws, more cushioning that any mat that I have seen. It seems like the quality is above and beyond the rest of the mat world. It is the best I have ever used. One drawback, though, is the weight.

Since human beings began practicing yoga thousands of years ago, the symbol of a tree has often been linked with the discipline – and for good reason! The focus of karma yoga is on service and treatment of others. Practitioners of this form of yoga believe that our actions of yesterday determine our present-day reality. It can be inferred that those who practice karma yoga are focused on doing the right thing as of the present so that they can guarantee a good future for themselves and others. Negative manifestations, such as narcissism, pessimism and amour propre are eliminated. What you would need to do here would be to focus on selflessness and optimism.

Jnana Yoga

People who practice jnana yoga focus on the goal of furthering their mind’s development. This is a more scholarly form of yoga, as those who practice this form spend a lot of their time studying ancient Eastern texts and understanding what they mean in the present. Many people agree that this is one of the most excruciatingly intense types of yoga around, as the learning and research could be quite harrowing, especially for beginners.

It is possible for yoga’s paths to intersect, which makes these “branches” different from the branches on an actual tree. In an actual tree, only the likes of Tarzan can simultaneously hang from two or three branches, but when it comes to yoga, you can do this without much difficulty. I may actually buy another one as it doesn’t cover enough area for a full workout but I knew that when I bought it. Being a hard core yoga student, (I practice for an hour every day) I’ve had a number of yoga mats over the years but never one as good as this. My first impression is horrible, but clean it and practice yoga regularly. I solve this by wearing yogi toes or yogi paws. The Manduka Yoga Mat is the Mercedes Benz of yoga mats. I was leery of spending this much on a yoga mat but the first time I used it I realized all yoga mats are not created equal. I even like that it’s heavy, it helps tone my arms! After about five or six yoga classes, it finally wore off. Still slippery when it gets really sweaty but way better than any other mat I’ve ever used.

In fact, you will get an excellent upper body workout just walking to class. If you are like me and have to carry extra yoga mats, eye pillows, a gym bag and a 13 month old, forget it. I’ve practiced yoga for only a little over a year, five mornings a week. Until purchasing the Manduka, I was using one of those thin, inexpensive yoga mats. Some other reviews have complained about slipping, but this hasn’t been a problem for me. It might be because there is a distinct top and bottom and if it is upside down it is slippery.

It’s the same basic hygiene that makes one own, not share, an exercise mat. If you can afford it, do it. I’ve been doing yoga for 7 years. I’ve gone through a couple of regular sticky mats by now (I don’t like how they get stretchy after a couple of years), so I decided to buy something more durable.

Plus it comes with a lifetime guarantee. I will never use another type of mat again.

Expensive, but I use it for aerobic and occasional high impact exercises as well as yoga. It is comfortable and easy to clean.

I am looking forward to years of yoga. This size is the best, less weight, thick enough for the POWER 90 and P90X training. I know it isn’t cheap, but I don’t regret the purchase at all and highly recommend this mat. It’s the best! If you can’t get rid of the film, spray it with Simple Green and let it bake in the sun. Once you try this mat, you will never want to practice on a cheap yoga mat again.

I’m an avid practitioner, and in five years of religious practice, the Manduka mat was my fourth mat purchased. I started with a Prana mat that went bald around the hands and feet positions for down dog. I decided to get another Manduka and I’m thrilled to have one again. My memory hadn’t failed me. I use gym shoes every time and put this thing to the test every time. Not one mark on it yet- I’ve had it for a couple months. It arrived in a timely manner and I have used it ever since. If you need a new yoga mat this is the one to get.

So, I am putting my old cheaper Danskin mat over the Manduka mat to hold my poses. I have been told the Manduka mat will not be slippery when broken in so I will amend this review in time. Simply alternate the direction you roll your mat (top outside once, then bottom outside next) or the end you start from (curled end once, flat end next time) and you’ll find it straightening out more or less over time. I recommend buying your own yoga mat even if your yoga studio or gym provides them for you. When it’s sticky, it’s too sticky. I felt like my flesh on my toes was going to rip off when transitioning to up dog.

This is a wonderful mat. It will take your practice to a new level and last a lifetime. It’s just horrible. I called Manduka and they said “we get this a lot from our clients, and tell them all to wash the mat, scrub the mat, and give it time to break in” well, folks, I’ve had my mat for SEVEN months and still, I slide all over the place! I may actually buy another one as it doesn’t cover enough area for a full workout but I knew that when I bought it. I have not had any concerns with slipping. It is quite sturdy. It’s thick and comfortable, not sticky but keeps me in place. It’s easy to clean and seems like it will last a lifetime.

However, I have had a lot of difficulty in removing the slippery film. Unfortunately we went through a few yoga mats each until we found the Manduka Black mat. All the other mats tore up with the Plyometrics workout – but this mat not only provides great cushion for leaping, but my husband (who sweats a LOT in yoga) doesn’t slide around like on the others.

I have been regularly practicing vinyasa and ashtanga yoga for 10+ years. My old mat wore out, and I decided to save money and break out this mat that my husband previously bought for himself & rarely used. It is also longer and wider, giving you a larger working space. It’s absolutely the best. This is an excellent yoga mat; I had one of my own and bought this for my mom on Amazon. You can’t beat the price. It’s extremely cushiony and stays firmly gripped to the floor. I still haven’t managed to “break in” the surface so that the protective (and slippery) film disappears, but I use a Yogi Toes towel on top and I’m now slip-free! The only negative aspect is the weight. It’s a bit heavy to carry around, but I can live with that.

I have to have a towel on top of it now. Some reviews said that the slipperiness would wear off after a while, but it’s been two months and it is still slippery.
